Meet the Team - Sarah Charlesworth, Environmental Lead

September 11, 2025

Hello! Shwmae!

My name is Sarah and I joined the Trinity executive committee in October last year (2024). I

am really proud to be part of such a fantastic project for the community and have enjoyed

starting to get to know some of the groups as they have moved back into the new building.

My main role on the committee is the environmental lead. I am passionate about

environmental issues, particularly how these impact and relate to social justice and equality.

You may have noticed a few changes we have made as we have moved back into the

refurbished building in order to be more environmentally friendly. One of these is our new

brown toilet roll! This is unbleached and made from recycled paper. We have also swapped

over to soap dispensers that are fixed to the wall and contain hand-soap that is kind to the

hands but also to the environment and reduces our plastic waste. A big change is the

introduction of recycling bins to separate waste as per the new Wales recycling law. Please

ask us if you need help understanding which bin to use. We have also introduced environmentally

friendly:

- washing up liquid and hard surface cleaner in the kitchen

- bin bags and liners- these are all plastic-free and part of our aim to reduce plastic

waste.

We also want to make the outside of Trinity feel welcoming and be a small oasis of calm and

beauty in a busy community. We have planted some wildflower seeds and some herbs in the

outside garden area and over time would like to develop this small area further with more

wildlife friendly plants to attract butterflies and bees. If anyone is a keen gardener and would

like to help please let us know!

We are really keen to get everyone involved and learning about how we can look after the

planet and care for creation.

In June we had held an event as part of Big Green Week, an annual event encouraging

people to come together to be part of a wave of actions for climate and nature. Trinity ran

activities to make bird feeders from recycled toilet roll inners, and seed bombs. These

were great fun but very messy!

Cardiff council came along and ran a recycling rubbish game and were on hand with

advice about recycling and gave out replacement sacks and bins.

Railway gardens, a local community group ran a grow your own micro salad activity with

radish and rocket to take home to grow.

We also had sunflower seed planting, plant swapping, a children’s poster competition

for ‘Keep Trinity Green and Tidy’ and people on hand from Climate Cymru and some of our

Trinity groups to chat to.

Going forward we are working towards implementing more things from our new

environmental policy. We are encouraging all groups to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE

and help us reduce our carbon footprint and plastic waste as much as possible.

Please let me know if there are any issues with the changes being made or if you are keen

to become involved in trying to make Trinity as environmentally friendly as possible.

With thanks to National Lottery Heritage Fund for their support and grant for this year.

As always - if you'd like more information, email Fflur or Louise on enquiries@trinitycentre.wales.
